“Agile Working” – “Flexible Working” – “Mobile Working”; do you know how they differ?

“Agile Working” – “Flexible Working” – “Mobile Working”.  They are all terms being used increasingly frequently to describe the changing world of work.

If you’re confused by these (and other) terms being bandied about, you need to read my colleague John Eary’s blog.  He explains all these, together with a way of assessing how an organisation is progressing to true Agile Working.  John’s 6 stage maturity model is shown below.

John says “Technology has been a key enabler for the successful implementation of new ways of working.  Also important are the working environments, management styles and tailored policies  to support staff in new ways of working.”

I think the biggest challenge is cultural; i.e. identifying and adopting the new behaviours required to achieve Agile Working and possibly the biggest area of resistance will be among managers.  Remember, culture eats strategy for lunch and culture change happens in units of one (person by person).
