I’m looking forward to seeing the BBC’s film “Out of jail and on the streets” which is being screened on Tuesday 5 February 2013 on BBC1 at 10.35 p.m.
This will feature the work of Sussex and Surrey Probation Trust with exclusive access to Probation Officers as they try to keep offenders on the straight and narrow. It was filmed in 2012 with SSPT’s Public Protection team in Brighton and the Offender Management team in Chichester.
The film is very timely in light of the government’s recent announcement of plans to privatise the majority of Probation work. The UK government described its privatisation of Probation services in England and Wales on 9th January as ‘the most significant reforms to tackling re-offending and managing offenders in the community for a generation’.
