Stop talking about Process Mapping please!

I’m pleased to see somebody reads my Newsletter and monthly ramblings!  My article on “what’s the point of mapping an As Is process?” has generated some interesting discussion and comments.

Another point I perhaps should have made in the article was the comment I usually make at the start of any process event with senior managers (particularly in the public sector): “please stop talking about process mapping and start using the language of process management and improvement”.

Mapping is just a tool, the map is just an output.  The engagement of staff that leads to improvement is what matters.
