Ian Seath will be making a presentation to the Criminal Justice Stream of the Operational Research Conference (OR51) in Warwick on September 8th 2009. He will speak about the application of Lean Six Sigma in a CJ environment. The abstract of his paper is below…
There has been an interest in Lean Principles among Criminal Justice organisations for around 4 years now, particularly in Probation, but several LCJBs and Police Forces have also been interested. The use of Six Sigma has been less widespread and the combination – Lean Six Sigma – that we are seeing in the private sector hasn’t really taken off yet in the CJ sector. Some of this is due to poor data (availability and quality) and poor understanding of the power of statistical thinking which means people are reluctant to investigate tools such as Control Charts.
The presentation explains the principles and potential application of Lean Six Sigma in a CJ context.
